Narcissistic relationships

Narcissistic relationships are characterized by invalidating behaviors that may become emotionally or physically abusive over time. You may feel caught up in a cycle of intermittent approval, loveboming or periods of relative peace, which can make it difficult to identify. Narcissistic others can make feel that you are never good enough and require walking on egg shells in an effort to get along with them. Narcissistic abuse may involve harsh criticisms, gaslighting, manipulation, threats or coercion. This can result in a negative self-concept, difficulty in relationships and mental health challenges. The long-term effects may contribute to complex trauma or CPTSD. Talk therapy combined with EMDR to address trauma are an effective way to work through issues stemming from narcissistic relationships.
